When I think back twenty years, I remember longing for finding a group of like-minded women who wanted to come together in a safe environment to grow personally and professionally. You know, women supporting women in atmosphere of caring and sharing.

I found myself very limited by the choices. We didn’t have the availability of the Internet the way we have now – there wasn’t Facebook or Twitter. There was the telephone and face-to-face meetings – those were our choices. So honestly, the sphere of influence was pretty small.

About 25 years ago I learned first hand the power of women coming together to share. I decided that I truly disliked my career choices, despite years of education. I was at a loss as what to do next – I was confused and felt disappointed in myself.

I received a flyer in the mail about a professional development seminar for women. It was reasonably priced and near by so I figured I really had nothing to lose.

It was exactly what I needed. There was a room filled with like-minded women. Up on the stage was a beautifully dressed and well-spoken woman who began sharing wonderful pearls of wisdom and stories of her own personal and professional development. This was the first time I had ever been to anything like this. The room was packed with women excited to learn more about professional success. I was enthralled and very impressed!

I became a speaker, just like the woman on the stage and traveled the country empowering women to go for their dreams. And, I’m still empowering women today – 20+ years later. All because I decided to step back and look at the big picture and learn how to harness my own power to go forward in positive ways.

Because I came out of comfort zone and went to the seminar – something I had never done before in my life – my perspective on life, especially my life, had completely changed. I was living my purpose and I was on a mission to share what I discovered with other women.

Let me finish the story for you. About five years later I was attending a convention in Dallas Texas for the National Speakers Association. I kept saying to myself that my goal was to meet the woman speaker who had changed my life and to thank her personally. I visualized it and affirmed it everyday before the convention. When I got to the convention and looked at the roster of names, her name was not among the list of attendees. My heart sank. Yet, I still went on visualizing and affirming, I didn’t give up.

The last day of the convention I took my seat. Out of the corner of my eye I saw a beautifully dressed woman walk into the room and head directly to the empty seat next to mine and sit down next to me. Yes, it was the woman who had had such a positive impact my life. I introduced myself and proceeded to thank her and explain how she had changed my life for the positive. She hugged me and thanked me for sharing that with her – she said it reinforced her purpose in life.

Fast forward to today and how awesome it is to have at your fingertips and your computer screen access to empowered women all over the world.
